About tradjazzers
Tradjazzers have been playing at St Stephen’s, Richmond (360 Church Street, Richmond, Australia) since 2006. Some current members have been playing with Tradjazzers since the group was first formed, while others are more recent arrivals. We meet in the church every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8:30 PM (see map below).
We play a mix of collective improvisation and individual solos. Our instrumentation currently comprises a trumpet, a trombone, two saxes, two clarinets, a banjo, guitar, cello, drums, tuba and piano. We keep the group relatively small to ensure players can hear each other during collective improvisation, and to give everyone who wants to solo a good opportunity to do so.
We play from the list of charts downloadable here. Our charts list is updated from time to time as members suggest new tunes.
Our leader typically emails everyone a list of ten or so tunes we'll be playing several days before each practice.
